What edging does

Without a proper edge restraint, the edges of a drive spread.

Cobblestone borders are our standard edging. We can use another edging if you prefer.

Mortar packed tight against the outside cobbles locks the edge in place.

The compacted chipstone base under the drive helps hold the edge too.

Edging depth

We set the edging thick enough to hold the surface, but not so thick it leaves ruts in the drive.

Edging for shell drives

On a shell driveway, the edging is what keeps the shell from migrating.

Why stone

Natural stone doesn't rot, rust or break down in salt air, and it handles New England freeze-thaw.
